A dental bridge is a restorative dental solution that can replace one or more teeth within the smile. Bridges are made to “bridge the gap” left behind from a lost or extracted tooth. The restoration includes a false tooth called a pontic fused to dental crowns on each end to create a single piece. The bridge is bonded in place using the adjacent teeth as support, allowing the false tooth to rest on the gumline to appear as a natural tooth once did.
Why choose dental bridges?
There are many options for patients to choose from when it comes to replacing teeth, including partial dentures, full dentures, implant supported dentures, dental implants, and dental bridges. The restoration most appropriate for a placement will depend on their unique situation.
Some patients may choose dental bridges because:
- They are long-lasting.
- They are affordable.
- They are more permanent than a removable denture.
- They are natural-looking.
- They restore chewing and biting abilities.
- They improve the appearance of the smile.
What is the process of obtaining a dental bridge?
Patients are evaluated to determine if they are a good fit for the dental bridge. Patients should have teeth on each side of the gap, or at least consider dental implants as an anchor for a larger dental bridge when adjacent teeth are not available. The existing teeth on each side is prepared by removing enamel from the outer portion of the tooth. Then, impressions are taken with Itero which link directly to our dental laboratory. The cermaicist fabricates the final repair. The dental bridge is made with the use of specific instructions from Dr. Lenny Slepchik to ensure it matches the smile in colour, shape, and overall size. Patients may have a temporary bridge put in place until their final restoration arrives at the dental office, typically one to two weeks after the impressions have been sent. The final bridge is bonded into place on the adjacent teeth and the process is complete !
