Why dental x-rays are important in dentistry

Dr. Lenny Slepchik  is a downtown Montreal dentist who encourages patients to take a proactive approach to dental care. Patients in the area can work with him to not only seek treatment for dental concerns, but to maintain their oral health with regular dental visits. Recall appointments should be scheduled at least every six months or every 3 months, according to your specific needs.  During these visits, patients will enjoy a thorough examination, dental cleaning, and sometimes, dental x-rays.

What are Digital dental x-rays used for?

Dental x-rays allow him to see the health of the smile outside of the physical barriers. Many conditions can develop below the gumline or within teeth that can be impossible to diagnose without special imaging solutions. Our team of professionals can use dental x-rays to spot problems such as cavities or signs of periodontal disease. Infection and other issues that lie beneath the surface can be addressed sooner rather than later. This often allows patients to avoid expensive dental work down the road with early intervention.  Since the x-rays are digital, they can be shared with any specialist,if necessary. They are also stored so that we can compare from year to year how your dental health is progressing.

Why are dental x-rays performed before placing dental implants?

Another benefit of dental x-rays is they allow the dentist to see if a patient is a good candidate for dental implants. Dental implants are titanium metal posts placed into the bone of the jaw to function as an effective tooth root replacement when teeth have been lost or extracted. In order for them to be successful, patients need to have sufficient bone structure in the jaw. To be able to assess this, Dr. Slepchik needs to use dental x-rays. Dental x-rays also help the dentist in planning the position and placement of the implants for them to be effective at repairing the smile.

How often do I need dental x-rays?

Dental x-rays are not completed at every visit unless a patient has a specific need for them. They are often part of a patient’s very first visit to a new dentist. Then, x-rays are completed as needed after that, especially if planning certain oral surgeries or checking to determine if a patient is a good candidate for a specific procedure.
