Dr. Slepchik practices comprehensive preventive general dentistry. Depending on your previous dental history, you may currently wear a denture. However, regular dentures aren’t necessarily for everyone ; implant supported dentures offer a much more stable alternative.
What Are Implant Supported Dentures?
Traditionally, dentures sit on your gums, and you can take them out whenever you want. Even though a lot of patients find traditional dentures to be beneficial, they aren’t necessarily for everyone; which is where dental implant supported dentures come into play. Implant supported dentures are dentures that are affixed permanently to dental implants. They NEVER move at all.
What are the benefits?
- Stability: The number one thing that patients like about dental implant supported dentures is the fact that they are a lot more stable than traditional dentures. They will not fall out nor move while talking or eating. This is a huge benefit.
- Functionality: Although dentures are supposed to stay in place when you chew, they tend to move around a lot. Dental implant supported dentures allow you to eat without having to worry that they will pop out or become loose.
- They Can Go Both Ways: One of the unique things about these types of dentures is that they can be both permanent or semi-permanent. Some patients prefer to have theirs fixed in place while others prefer to have their denture attached to a retainer so that they can remove them whenever they want. During your initial consultation, Dr. Slepchik will discuss both of these options with you so that you can determine which option will give you better convenience and the results you are looking for.
