At the downtown Montreal practice of Dr. Lenny Slepchik, patients are able to work with a dental professional to find solutions to replace missing or extracted teeth. While teeth are meant to last a lifetime, certain concerns can develop over time that may lead to the permanent adult teeth being impacted. Trauma, disease, or decay may put the teeth at risk and cause patients to experience tooth loss. Dr. Lenny Slepchik and his team provide several tooth replacement options including dental bridges.
Understanding how dental bridges work
Dental bridges work by providing patients with a restoration that replaces one or more teeth in a row. The false teeth, called pontics, are integrated with dental crowns on each side. The adjacent teeth are used to support the dental bridge, allowing patients to “bridge the gap” left behind from lost or extracted teeth. Dental bridges are bonded in place and can last many years with proper care. They are more affordable than other permanent options such as dental implants. Dental bridges are a better option than partial dentures for our patients.
How to care for dental bridges
Dental bridges do require care in maintaining the restoration and their natural teeth. Brushing and flossing after every meal is advised, as well as regular visits to Dr. Lenny Slepchik’s office according to your cleaning regimen agreed upon with your hygienist for a cleaning and examination. Dental bridges also require patients to take care in flossing underneath the false teeth and above the gum line to keep food particles from becoming trapped. This can lead to problems that can impact the bridge and the existing teeth. Patients should also avoid chewing or biting on hard objects, such as ice cubes, as this can cause them to break their restoration or cause it to come loose. Patients will receive dental bridge care recommendations from us once their restorations have been cemented in place. Compliance is key to extending the longevity of this and other dental restoration in the smile.
