You may think that in order to get your teeth fresh and clean that all you need is a toothbrush with toothpaste, but that is incorrect. Dr. Slepchik has a few tips to help you improve your dental hygiene and reduce cavities. Please read below.
Use a Fluoride Toothpaste
You may not know this, but not all toothpaste is the same. Make sure your toothpaste contains fluoride. Fluoride helps strengthen your teeth and will help keep them extra protected from cavities or weakened enamel.
Brush for Several Minutes
You may think that if you brush your teeth for a few seconds that is enough, but you should be brushing your teeth for several minutes at least twice a day. To make sure that you are getting the most out of your brushing, consider setting a timer on your phone. The first time you use a timer, it may feel like you’re brushing for hours but the more you get used to brushing for longer, the better. We recommend an electric toothbrush to our patients to get the best and most thorough result.
Brush In a Circular Motion
For as much as you can, try to brush your teeth in more of a circular motion rather than just side to side. Why? A circular motion will help you cover more circumference which means that you will be getting your teeth cleaner. Plus, it doesn’t require that much pressure which means that you won’t erode away your enamel from pushing too hard.
